  1. Try not to use boiling water
Even though hot boiling water is more effective in cleaning, it considerably reduces the lifespan of your downstem. Plastic downstems will lose their shape while the ones made of metal may crack when they come in contact with water at such high temperatures.
  1. Use denture cleansers
Denture cleanser tablets can be used to clean your downstem. Yes, that’s right. It is a cheap option that is also easily accessible. Put your downstep in a ziplock pouch or a container with hot water and drop one tablet in and keep it in for around 20 minutes. The tablet will dissolve in the water and clean out the dirt on the downstem. Take the downstem out and rinse it one last time.
A downstem is easy to maintain, but with just a little amount of care, it will continue to function properly for a long time.
